Successful ready-to-use Get Online Week scenarios from Poland

GOW12_Poland_logoHTo help Polish organizations, libraries & institutions organize successful events during the Get Online Week campaign, the polish partner organization the Information Society Development Foundation (FRSI) have prepared some  ready-to-use scenarios that are now published in English and available to be used for the GOW2013 national partners.

During the  campaign editions of  GOW2011 and GOW2012 , FRSI created a total 0f 6 scenarios, directed to first online users & seniors (“Virtual listener’s choice”, “Health Clinic”, “Talk Priceless”) but also targeted to people of all ages, families and groups of friends (“Around the world in 80 minutes”, “Plant a tree.. on the internet!”, “Warm-up before EURO2012″).

For GOW2013, 3 more scenarios are being developed, together with the other Polish organizations coordinating the campaign this year: Cities on Internet Association and the Foundation Supporting Physically Disabled Mathematicians and IT Specialists. To be continued!

How to disseminate the MIREIA survey? Best practices from Poland!

MIREIA_FRSI_PolandHOn February 5th, 2 weeks before the deadline to fill out the MIREIA survey, Poland has reached its minimum target of mapping 180 Polish eInclusion organizations. 

FRSI, a member of TE and the Polish MIREIA partner estimated that over 10.000 telecentres must be operating in Poland, in different kind of institutions.

Their dissemination strategy has been characterized by a thorough research of channels & partners, a good monitoring of the survey responses and the adequate adoption of a new strategy when this was deemed necessary.

Polish Library Development Program extended for one more year

Poland_FRSI_eInclusionAwards_video2HThe Library Development Program in Poland, managed by TE’s member organization the Information Society Development Foundation (FRSI) will be extended until March 31st, 2015.

Poland-FRSI_logo_enHA rational management of funds provided by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and a financial contribution made by the Polish-American Freedom Foundation have made this extension possible. Additional activities broadening the scale of the Program and consolidating its effects will be undertaken.

With the extension, 60% of the libraries in Polish villages & small towns will now become active and modern centers of access to knowledge, information, culture and education!

Library Development Program reduces digital exclusion in Poland

Poland_FRSI_LibrariesReport_01HAfter 3 years of implementing the Library Development Program at Polish Libraries, a very informative and well written report has now been issued about the impact of the program on the end users.

The program is a joint venture between the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Polish-American Freedom Foundation, implemented in Poland by the Information Society Development Foundation.

One of the  conclusions is the important role libraries play in reducing digital exclusion in Poland: as many as 37% of respondents used a computer for the first time in their life in the library. Another conclusion is that libraries  serve as the “Third Place” in localities:  a meeting place which is friendly and open to all, combining the advantages of private & public spaces.

Orange Poland offers 3 extra years of free internet at Polish libraries

In July 2012, the Information Society Development Foundation (FRSI) and its Polish ministry partners signed a Memorandum with Orange Poland to prolong the financing of free Internet access at the Polish communal public libraries for the next three years.

Thanks to FRSI’s and its partners’ efficient advocacy activities, more than 3.500 Polish public libraries (of which about 50% participate in the Library Development Program[1]) will continue to use the Internet free of charge until 31th July 2015, while having their visitors connected to the net.

Regional Tech Forum 3.0 on October 16th in Gdynia, Poland

The Information Society Development Foundation (FRSI) is organizing a series of regional Tech Fora 3.0 to provide information on ICT to the local communities’ key actors. The first one will take place on October 16th in Gdynia (Poland)

The fora are part of FRSI’s “New Technologies Locally” program, that will broaden the knowledge & skills of nongovernmental organizations’ employees and activists in the practical use of modern information and communication technologies through training, ICT guidance and small grants.

Cities On Internet Association

The Cities On Internet Association (COI) A nongovernmental organization tasked with bridging the gap between public entities, IT companies and the research community, focused on digital literacy, e-government, e-inclusion, the Information Society and the knowledge-based economy.

In recent yeears COI focuses prominently on the digital literacy training of adults. The organization has 3 permanent locations in Poland, with a number of regional project offices in most of the regions. COI actively co-operates with the Ministry of Administration and Digitization and with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

Since 1999, COI acts as a Branch Contact Point for Research Programmes of the EU, and coordinates the e-inclusion platform which is tasked with combating the “digital divide”. Since 2007, COI experts act within the network of the National Contact Points for the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Proramme ICT component. Since 2011, COI coordinates the National Digital Literacy Programme, the largest endeavor of its kind in Europe, ultimately targeting 60.000 adults.
