Get Online Week 2013 has started!

GOW13_bannerHOn March 18th at 00:00 CET the Get Online Week 2013 (#GOW2013) campaign counter was set to zero. In a joined effort to empower people to use technology to find a job or get more out of life, thousands of Europeans will be reached during the Pan-European campaign that will end on March 24th, at 24h CET.

Together with public authorithies & ICT companies, national campaign partners from almost 30 countries are organizing a whole week of exciting events, training sessions and competitions, taking place in approximately 10.000 European ICT learning centres (also known as telecentres) at public libraries, schools & municipal organisations, located in both urban and rural areas. Upcoming: 4th Global Forum on Telecentres – Granada, Spain 28-29 May 2013

The Spark conference, also known as the 4th Global Forum on Telecentres, is set to take center stage in Granada, Spain this coming May 28-29 at the Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos.

Organized by Telecentre.org Foundation (TCF), Telecentre-Europe (TE), Consorcio Fernando de los Rios-Red Guadalinfo and the National Information Society Agency of Korea (NIA), the conference is expected to bring together over 1.300 participants from the information and communication technology for development (ICT4D) sector as well as private and public agencies from around the globe.

Talks in the conference will revolve around the theme of “People, Social Innovation, and Sustainability”. Among the anticipated events in the program are the launch of the 1st Global Telecentre Awards and a special focus on initiatives that contribute to women empowerment through the meaningful use of ICTs, including TCF’s Telecentre Women Program.

Telecentre-Europe at the Conference of Catalan Telecentres

More than 150 telecentre managers & ICT professionals attended the annual network meeting  of the Catalan Telecentre Network Xarxa Punt TIC that was organized at Barcelona’s Cibernarium last November 30th. Among the speakers were representatives of Telecentre-EuropeTelecentre.org Foundation and the Community Association of Spanish Telecentre Networks.

The conference was organized by the Knowledge Society Agency of the Government of Catalonia (owner of the Punt TIC network) and showcased the spirit, people, projects and objectives of a network with more than 600 telecentres, that this year celebrates its 10th birthday.

It was an excellent opportunity to show the local & international community “what’s hot” today at the Catalan telecentres: new professional profiles, social innovation, mobile apps, robotics workshops, QR itineraries, etc.

European Social Innovation Competition

Few issues have as acute a need for social innovation as tackling unemployment. Across European Member States millions of people are either unemployed, under-employed, some are in unsustainable employment, and others are economically inactive. The EU Commission is offering a prize to social innovations that have a real impact on helping more people move towards work or into new types of work.

The competition is launched in memory of Diogo Vasconcelos and includes a strong mentoring component for shortlisted entries. The three best proposals will each be awarded with a prize of 20.000 € in May 2013.

The deadline for entering the competition is 21 December 2012.

Conference on Social Innovation and Social Policy Experimentation

The conference will discuss with policy makers and practitioners how to best shape EU support to social innovation in the context of the Social Investment Package for Growth and Cohesion.

The objective of the conference is to address challenges affecting social innovation and consider possible policy responses, on the basis of the lessons learned from social innovation policies and practices implemented by Member States with the support of the EU Commission.

Telecentre-Europe’s Summit 2012

Under the title Jobs for Youth and Ageing Online, network leaders representing more then 25.000 telecentres gathered at Mercure Grand Hotel in Warsaw for the fifth Telecentre-Europe Summit that took place during 17-18 October 2012 and was co-hosted by the Information Society Development Foundation (FRSI).

The Summit was opened by a video message from Commissioner László Andor, responsible for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion.

The event included plenary & parallel sessions on four main topics:

• Skills &  Jobs for youth
• Capacity building for telecentres & libraries
• Socio-economic impact of telecentres
• Ageing Online
