History

In April 2008, a number of organisations from across Europe met and made a firm commitment to collectively support those who are being left behind: those who are not benefitting from all the opportunities of the information society. This commitment is called Telecentre-Europe.

The Original “Vision” approved by the participants of the Riga meeting
By 2010, Telecentres-Europe will be a viable network of telecentres and practitioners in Europe helping them to collaborate and share experiences with their counterparts within and outside the continent.
It will be a recognized competent organization to advise decision-makers on their e-strategies including e-Inclusion, e-Skills, and IT social business.
By impact, it will be a leading European authority on developing citizens' e-Skills, employing large scale information technologies for e-Inclusion, quality of life and social business.

Since we started in April, Telecentre-Europe has grown rapidly, month on month, and is already becoming a trusted partner for many international, national and local organisations and projects. Our growth is driven by a real need: a need for knowledge sharing amongst all of us who are making e-Inclusion happen at the grassroots, a need for leveraging resources and advocacy, a need to develop the capacity of those who bring real change to communities, and a need for real networking and mutual support.

In December 2008, Telecentre-Europe was publically launched at the EC eInclusion Conference in Vienna. At that moment, Telecentre-Europe was made up of organisations from sixteen EU member states and a further seven European nations.
